Brief

In this class project we were tasked with originating or redesigning a board game. As part of this we created the board, box, instructions, cards, and play pieces. I chose to redesign the board game, “Ticket to Ride”, in which players compete to build train routes between cities to earn points.

Background

My version of “Ticket to Ride” is based on San Francisco
Bay Area transit systems. Taking inspiration from transit maps, all of the lines on the map run straight or diagonal. I designed illustrations for the color draw cards, which are used to place new routes. Each card is based on a Bay Area transit vehicle. I chose historical vehicles as they have more unique, distinguishable paint jobs. I designed train tokens that worked in the new system, based on BART cars. I built the shapes in Google Sketchup, then 3-d printed and painted them.
